There were also humans who stewarded and protected those forests. Imperialism, colonialism, and white supremacy are the disease

yes and i understand and appreciate that, but ultimately mourning the fact that in the end imperialism/colonialism/etc "won" that battle

Yeah but if you think of it like that then it’s like? Where else is there to go from there? Like I get the mourning and the knowledge that it will never be what it was but like, we can’t just give up on making things better than they are now at least, at trying to resist the effects of these institutions

valid but you're allowed to mourn something while also wanting betterment. you can't really have one without the other imo.
