My parents get weirdly defensive when I talk them about my experience with many (NOT ALL) neurotypical people as an autistic girl (ie. being misunderstood because of communication differences, instantly being disliked/alienated, infantilized, etc.)

Probably cause they've also experienced similar situations and don't want to think about how that means they might also have autism

I def agree with this. We tend to be mirrors for our parents and sometimes out parents are under prepared for the imagine in the mirror. Wether is the good qualities or bad qualities if they arent ready for that reality check then any diagnosis will be met with rejection by them because it forces them to think of the similarities you have to them and if you got that diagnosis what it means for them.
