I have autism but I’m amab, not afab. But from what I’ve heard autistic people have a higher rates of PMDD. Also hormonal changes that can cause neurotypical people to feel sad can increase the risk of meltdowns and shutdowns in people with autism. Sensory wise it can be overstimulating or uncomfortable, not just down there, but noises and smells and stuff that are already annoying can become more unbearable.
I got downvoted lmaooo. I clearly said that somebody who has experienced it (and I know someone who is autistic and has) can explain it a lot better than I can. This is a known fact and I’m surprised it isn’t common knowledge. I don’t see what’s wrong in letting people know. People downplay periods all the time, especially the additional challenges that autistic people face. Autistic people face challenges with many things in life, and it’s not surprising that periods are one of those things.
Also autism makes sleep apnea and allergies harder for me, as well as colds. How? I already struggle with sensory issues and have difficulty focusing. These things just make it worse. I had untreated sleep apnea for most of college. Not to mention many autistic people, myself included, need more sleep because things like masking and processing information require a lot of energy.
