I wanted to learn Japanese this year and I started but then I learned more about the history of the country and now I feel conflicted

every country has bad history. you don’t stick around for hundreds or thousands of years from being nice and pacifist - the history of every longstanding country is violent and cruel. and that shows up in language every day. don’t let it discourage you from learning, especially since there is a strong value in knowing history and not letting it be erased or covered up by sanitized agendas

I do but it’s such a complicated language

No I liked the complicated part cuz it makes it more fun, but I just start over think , cuz I’m not learning it because I like the history of the country or the current politics I’m doing it so I can watch anime and not have to look at it all the time like I do with my other shows

I watch dub but all the songs are still in Japanese…. Which matters a lot with certain anime’s

For sure, but I’m too lazy to watch subbed…. Even with the awful dubs
