I think it’s only bad when neurotypical people say it because they don’t mean it as in “autistic” they mean it as “quirky and funny minus all of the ‘bad’ traits”. Like the moment I have a breakdown and cannot be touched they run for the hills

there's a difference between finding mutual camaraderie and connection with autistic people and so preferring to have relationships with them, and actively seeking relationships with autistic people like people who fetishize autism do. it sounds like you might've worded your tastes poorly and got accused of being in the latter group instead of the former.
