they list the active ingredient, but what about the ones that would be inactive, there’s more than 1 ingredient in tylenol, and just bc something is inactive, doesn’t mean i might not have an affect on something, whether it be autism or other things happening during fetal development. and that goes for any medications. i feel like as much research has been done about autism, it truly isn’t enough

Of course they only list the active ingredient. The inactive ingredients are entirely dependent on which version of the drug you get. Did you get it in tablet form? Then it has the same ingredients that are in every other tablet to make it solid and make it easily swallowable. Did you get the liquid form? Liquid medications usually require sweeteners and a couple of ingredients to keep the medicine stable and safe in this form. What about in capsule form? Well that capsule is going to have to be

made of something that can protect the medicine and not dissolve to early. The key part is that all of these are industry standards across different medications. And they ARE inactive ingredients, so they’re usually commonly found in a variety of safe products including food.

Okay what was your point? Every ingredient in Tylenol is known to be safe across food and medication. And is not standard in Tylenol. Have a problem with the gelatin in the capsule form? Stop eating marshmallows and get a different form of the medication. Your problem is not with Tylenol

You didn’t make a point, you just said “maybe it’s something else” with 0 evidence. Tylenol’s ingredients are all pretty damn standard in any form of the medicine, I’m not sure what else you think you you said that needs addressing

so if there’s been more than enough research done, then why do we not know exactly how autism is caused. not just “it happens during fetal development”. something makes it happen. something causes that development

Not all factors are environmental. Genetics exist

okay, so? that doesn’t mean we should start picking things to research based on what an antivaxxer vibes with. More research would be awesome but we can only start trying to blame shit if the research actually comes up with something. “Maybe it’s some ingredient in Tylenol” is a wild conclusion to draw from “we’re not entirely sure how autism develops”.

Dude. You were talking about inactive ingredients in Tylenol. Those vary widely across types of Tylenol. If you’re going to investigate inactive ingredients in tablets for example, you would be investigating stuff in literally thousands of other medications, it’s no longer related to Tylenol whatsoever, just medication in general.

i mean its still obviously bs but the claim isnt that taking tylenol gives you autism it's something abt tylenol during pregnancy leading to autism. still false, but does make marginally more sense as a premise considering that plenty of drugs that are totally harmless to people in general are dangerous to fetuses when taken by the mother

Both of you are needlessly extending the argument. The bottom line is, acetaminophen itself doesn’t appear to be linked to autism, and inactive ingredients are variable based on form and widespread, and therefore impossible to use to link Tylenol and autism. We don’t need to throw around maybes, insults or accusations.

Tylenol doesn’t cause autism. We don’t need to even know of a “cause” because then your ilk would push for a “cure”. That’s eugenics bullshit.

how are you saying “can’t handle the truth” when your argument isn’t even a factual statement?? Giving a guess and multiple people explaining why your guess is wrong doesn’t need to be taken as a personal attack.

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #9 15w

my factual statement is me saying there’s no where near enough research done on ANYTHING related to an autism disgnosis so there could be anything causing it. whether it be something consumed in everyday life, a genetic makeup that just hasn’t been researched yet, or from something else. these people, yes including you, just don’t have the reading comprehension skills to understand that

upvote -1 downvote
default user profile icon

Clearly you’ve ignored well over 100 years showing the genetic relationship behind it. But sure, red 40 causes Autism so everybody panic and force ABA torture and then exterminate the Autistic people to come! 😱

Take your own advice, sweetheart. Seems you’re missing this: 🪞

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 15w

Okay, I see where the misunderstanding is then. genetic diseases are inherited from your parents, and often will only show up if you luck out and get the gene from both parents. There’s nothing changing people’s genes to give them genetic diseases, or changing people’s genes to make their kids more likely to have genetic diseases. Genes don’t change in a predictable way from almost anything, the diseases originate through mutations. Things that increase mutations are carcinogens.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #9 15w

however that still doesn’t fit autism. It clearly has genetic factors, but can’t be traced to a specific set of genes. It’s also a descriptor of a wide variety of social mannerisms more than it is an actual disease diagnosis. It varies too much in what we even consider to fit the definition to ever have a unified cause.

Even then, neurodivergence is just a fact of life. It’s always been and will be.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 15w

yeah. If we widen our question to neurodivergence in general, and literally just say “why do people’s brains be different”, it’s obvious we’ll never have anything close to one answer. Autism is the same.
