how to stop my gut reflex to any minor inconvenience from being “this is too much, promptly kill myself”? brain I dropped a plate of cookies that response is unwarranted in this situation

Try to catch yourself thinking it and come up with alternatives. Like guess it’s time to run away and join the circus, or I am going to jump into a river and turn into a trout. Also being very sarcastic about it. Like I dropped a plate of cookies, I should go become a waiter with these skills. Or, I am the best ever at holding stuff. It’s going to take a lot of active effort to both catch yourself every time and also actively change your thought process but you can definitely do it

Idk how to stop it but I follow it up immediately by calling this to mind

I guess for me, I made a joke of it? when I caught myself muttering that reaction outloud to myself in frustration, I realized that it was actually kind of funny by nature of what a disproportionate response it was, so then I started saying it flippantly in front of other people too. and eventually joking about it helped the thought itself become less serious
