i got diagnosed with autism recently (18yo) and i feel weird about it. it was never something i thought about but ever since seeing my doctor and being diagnosed i feel hyper aware of how different i am. is it weird to wish that I never got diagnosed?

it's not weird. it's a shift of perspective to go from not ever considering it to understanding how much of a difference it makes. it'll get better with time.

Not weird. I’d say pretty typical for late diagnosis, actually. Most people will find that in time they’re able to understand themselves better. The diagnosis didn’t make you different, but I can help you understand and accommodate yourself... but it is also okay to feel upset, and allow yourself time to think about those feelings. When you are ready, I very much recommend looking at educational resources specifically for adult autistic people, and late diagnosis/high masking. You got it.

I was diagnosed at 16 and I let it ruin me, the lady who gave my mom the paper work for diagnosis, apparently it was a load of bull shit, I smoked ALOT of weed in high school so put 2 and 2 together, idk why you were diagnosed but a lot of it was bs to me, good luck, stay true to your self first

sometimes i feel like im lying to people or to myself. a lot of autistic people I know got diagnosed when they were younger so it feels like i might be faking it or i have other issues instead. but i also trust my doctor. it’s so confusing and difficult to navigate.
