Not about any one case in particular but apparently it’s controversial to say that police should focus on de-escalation instead of executing mentally ill people the moment they act mentally ill.

I just don’t get why this is that controversial. Police often deal with mentally ill people. Why shouldn’t they be trained in proper de-escalation and crisis management? Even if someone is doing something shitty, police aren’t executioners. That’s not their job. I can think someone is doing a bad thing and also think that killing them was bad.

Idk if it passed or not but Ohio was trying to pass a bill that would allow people to be pink slipped just by someone calling the cops and I’ve been worried about my people ever since :( going voluntarily even with loving people who took me and stayed with me in the ER was traumatic enough

it’s become very obvious over the years that some people view police as people who are just supposed to aim and shoot when in danger but the whole point of cops is to protect people. they should be trained in de-escalation.

I know it’s hard to pick up tone on text and some neurodivergents find it difficult to understand sarcasm but yes I was joking about asylums

Cops protect property, not people

you can be affected by a certain problem and still oppress or harm people with that problem, you know. and making harmful “jokes” doesn’t undo harm just because you say you weren’t serious.

That’s the point I was saying too, it’s more harmful to the community when a mentally ill person does something crazy in public and puts a bad name for everyone with that illness
