I had a panic attack when my mom tried to teach me how to drive at 17. She gave up after that and passed a little over a year later. I’m 21 now and still only have my instruction permit. I feel so pathetic and don’t know how to fix things

you’re not the only one, and you shouldn’t blame yourself. everyone starts at different times. all you have to do is the next right thing, and find people you trust to help you learn and that you both remain patient with the process. ❤️

find an empty parking lot and a patient friend with a license and just sit there and chill until you’re ready to try

get a driving instructor!! they will be way more patient and helpful than your mom. i went to driving school and i was able to take the driving test with them which ended up being way easier than if i did it at the dmv. they had a specific way of teaching parallel parking that only worked in their parking lot with their cars but i didn’t mind 😂 i learned how to parallel park on my own afterwards

I’m also 21, just got my learner’s permit (again!), and signed up for lessons from AAA. It’s pricey, but cheaper than anyone else, and so worth it!

Lowkey best advice because if you learn how to do something well while at the same time you’re scared/paniced, you’ll end up a better driver than most people who are super relaxed. I just think it makes you more cautious, over time you get used to it but it took me like 5 years to drive enough to feel confident-ish so it’s definitely a journey. You’ve got this tho OP! We believe in you
