I did the first time bc it was about something kind of silly but now people use it for everything and it’s just ableist

Yeah it has “I don’t believe you, you’re just not trying hard enough” type vibes

it’s never been funny to me, maybe in its original context (iirc posted by someone with ADHD making a joking post abt their own disorder) but it’s been consistently reposted to demean those with ADHD. so no, I don’t like it

it bothers me a little but it also does the same thing for me as the pictures of Malala so when i need to lock in i think of that lol

My take: I think it can be funny. It’s important that we’re able to joke about ourselves

it was funny at first and now it’s just another way to water down a disability

I think it’s just one of those instances where the wrong people got a hold of it/we gave them an inch and they took it a mile.

i always interpreted it as a rebuttal against ND tenderqueer learned helplessness but i think that’s just bc there’s too many people like that at my uni </3

It was a little bit of a wake up call for me. In order to function in modern society, you have to put in some work. Yes, there’s a handicap on us, but it’s necessary to try and overcome the struggle

I find it funny in a dark humor coping way but when people who are just making fun of us vs laughing with us is so obvious every time

honestly it is funny tho, like we can have adhd and also laugh about how we can’t do anything. when it’s srs we deserve compassion and that’s true but sometimes we also deserve to get clowned (within reason, and with kindness when it’s actually bad)

I do agree that neurotypical people use it to put us down, but at the same time, I have seen plenty of ND people say some dumb shit about how their disorder is affecting them and it just be complete nonsense or WAY over the top. Everyone’s affected differently, but some tweets and posts genuinely make me face palm. Not everyone who posts and mentions their disabilities gives us a good name and that’s just unavoidable in every group.

i tried using it as a motivation tactic to get myself to start tasks, but it ended up making me feel horrible about myself

If it’s someone with a disorder joking it’s ok but other than that it makes me feel like I can’t even say I have a disorder without it seeming as an excuse for why I struggle….even tho it is💔

I have optimized my life in little ways to make things better. I have a process that I strictly follow every day after work. I sleep and wake at similar times every day (just wait till you have a full time job, your body will force you to do so. DM me if you need some help or advice from a semi-functioning person with ADHD

I mean it was about picking out a Halloween costume. It’s not because you’re neurodivergent..you’re just indecisive like most people

oh no, i’m not really a fan of this type personally bc of that learned helplessness and self-victimization they seem to lean into, and i thought the “you people can’t do anything” was a critique of that tenderqueer mindset so i was on board when i first heard it

I just realized I think the problem is you have to have enough control over your life to optimise it. That’s what the “omg you’re just not trying hard enough” people don’t get. Like yes we all have a varying degrees of control over our brains at different times, and if we do everything right they might cooperate more reliably. But that means investing time and often money and energy into thinking about how to take care of yourself beyond survival and a lot of people don’t have any to spare.

The original tweet was in response to someone saying how hard Halloween is for people who have ADHD. Sure sometimes people quote it in more serious contexts, but the original was funny

Thank you! It has been a tough journey Step 1 for me was setting an alarm everyday so I would wake up at 7. It sucked for a while (sleep deprivation, leading to even worse focus, and making executive function more difficult). However, it was a clear turning point for me
