I know this might sound bad, but don’t blame the kid, they are very likely in an environment that supports that way of thinking and they lack the capacity to think beyond it being “funny”. I work with teens and it can get frustrating, but I can ensure punishment will only make them dislike you and use it more in a ‘revenge’ type of way. What has worked with me is treating them like adults, try to understand their perspective and once I hear all of what they have to say I come in and converse.
