I have a severe fear of the dark/dead people and one of my ocd things is intrusive rapid-fire scary images of zombies and the like and it’s given me a lifetime of sleep problems. Also I’m atheist but my mental ritual is The Lord’s Prayer for some reason😭

Also I can see things very clearly in my mind. Every time I close my eyes there’s detailed gore apocalypse scenes and anything else I try to imagine get immediately contaminated and overrun

Hey, I have the same issue. I also fear the concept of dead things coming after me. When I close my eyes I see gore and people in pain too. What helps me is plastering over all the thoughts immediately with something weird, or sometimes even nsfw(?) but that last one is not the healthiest so maybe try not to do that. So when I see the melting faces screaming before bed, I do my best to picture like- Sebastian from the little mermaid singing. I dunno- good luck ok?

Also my dad told me yesterday morning that he had a dream in which I died, so I’ve had this horrible ominous paranoia all day and my fear is worse than usual

I really appreciate the suggestions ❤️ unfortunately I try doing that too, but that’s where the contamination comes in, anything else I picture rapidly gets covered in elements of like gore and rot. Even layering stimuli, like saying my ritual in my mind/mentally singing a song while also creating images of other things isn’t enough distraction

But also I want to thank you for sharing your similar experience. People don’t usually understand how I can be so afraid of something like zombies and dead things, and it really really comforted me to see someone else who understands and experiences it
