a coworker that i had known for a whole, who would talk about her son every time i saw her, lost her son to suicide. that was her only child. i watched how it destroyed her. i promised myself i would never, ever do that to my mother or the people i love. sometimes when you can’t do it for yourself, you have to find someone to do it for. your cat will never get closure, your dog will think you simply left and never came back…i just can’t live with what the consequences are anymore.
i am. i’m deeply in agony seeing this world. but i also know that i can do small things to make my community and life better. sure, we can all die in a nuclear war next month, but i can use that month to donate when i can and be kind to strangers and advocate for change and find joy in small things. the world will keep spinning, and even if i want to die, i feel like i need to keep going to do as much good as i can
there is love everywhere if you look for it. people are deeply flawed but also very lovely and beautiful. talking about the bad things going on in the country is important but pretending like these people are the majority is just wrong. people forget that even in 2016 clinton won the popular vote. MOST people are kind and trying their best. i think it’s my responsibility to do right by those people and fight alongside them instead of feeling hopeless. hope exists as long as hope exists yfm?
