I think a lot of the proship hate comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of kink and fantasy VS reality, combined with the strange moral purity contests that people like to have in online discourse

i used to find the whole topic of the anti- vs pro-shipping dichotomy super stressful & frustrating until someone pointed out to me that i’m allowed to opt out of “picking a side”. which might sound obvious from a distance, but it’s not intuitive at all when you exist in spaces where people ask that you not interact with them depending on which label you align yourself with

i think even a lot of people who do self-describe with these terms usually have more in common with their “opponents” than the one-or-the-other framework would lead them to believe. genuinely no disrespect towards anyone who takes the labels seriously, but (esp as a traumatized person who loves transgressive art & fiction) imo the whole thing can be a bit overly reductive as a categorical binary, ykwim?
