I feel like autism needs a rebrand. The word itself has so much baggage. To our community, it means finally having understanding, validation, etc. But to the neurotypical? It’s a slur. They use it to demean and condescend to us.

a rebrand won’t do anything, people use the word as a slur because they believe autistic people to be a lesser group of people. a rebrand or new word won’t do anything, they’ll just switch to whatever word categorizes us. the issue is them 🤷‍♂️

I’ve seen people using “do you get extra time on tests?” as an insult. Using different language or imagery does nothing if society doesn’t change

I've also heard people loudly say the R-word then lower their voice when they say autistic in the SAME SENTENCE.
