I hope my wisdom teeth (impacted) are not infected. I haven’t brushed my teeth this year (2026) because of executive dysfunction.

Hey, if the infection of the tooth gets to the nerve, you WOULD know. I dealt with that this same year. I had cavity on my last molar and didn’t visit the dentist for the longest time. In November of 2025, the cavity got so bad that my tooth broke. A piece of it came out of my mouth. I STILL didn’t go to the dentist…(To be continued)

People can really struggle with this. I’m the same way. Sometimes (like today), I force myself to brush my teeth in the shower because that’s just how my brain works 🤷‍♂️

By March of 2026, I started experiencing pain but I dealt with it with numbing creams from CVS plus acetaminophen/ibuprofen. A week later, the pain was so bad that I would bend over and fall to the floor each time that the pain hit. I couldn’t even drink water without making it hurt like hell.

I had finally made an appointment with a dentist, but I had to wait 5 days for it. I absolutely could not deal with that pain for 5 days. So, I went to patient first to see if they could help even though it was a dentist issue. They almost dismissed me, telling me to just wait for my dentist appointment or call to see if they can schedule it a day earlier.

I was like no, if you guys don’t help me alleviate my pain while I wait for that dentist appointment, I legit think I’ll be committing suicide this weekend. The pain was that pain. I couldn’t do ANYTHING besides trying not to make any sudden movements that would make my teeth hurt even more.

yeah i totally get that, i struggle with it from time to time too but it’s never been THAT bad for me even during depressive episodes so i’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around the severity

In the end, they gave in and injected me with a cortisone shot and prescribed me strong antibiotics (so strong that it gave me a yeast injection by killing all good and bad bacteria in my body, but that’s a story for another day). So, that was a life saver until I eventually visited the dentist and they removed the tooth all together.

So, if you’re not dealing with that type of pain, I don’t think your case can be that bad. So, don’t stress about it. They might even be able to save your tooth and not have to remove it completely.

Yeah, I’m awful with dental hygiene because of executive dysfunction as well. However, not brushing gets to the point that the teeth residue feels so thick and uncomfortable that I have to force myself to go brush my teeth immediately. I don’t think I have ever made it one week without brushing.
