I vastly prefer to live with other disabled / neurodivergent people rather than with people who don’t know what that’s like firsthand, but. conflicting accessibility needs in shared housing will really have you feeling like a shame-wracked Kafka protag

just wanna do right by my housemates and demonstrate that I respect their needs and take that stuff seriously, but I can’t shake this sense that every inch of space—including auditory & visual, not just physical—that I take up is like, unreasonably burdensome

I feel the same way. Def prefer living with other disabled people, but at the same time I’m usually the one who has to “shut off” my disability to keep the shared living space in order. Why can’t everybody just clean up after themselves and respect my space too? I’m always met with things like “I’m too tired…” Okay me too??? 😭😭 idk if anybody can relate but it’s so frustrating

Me as a neurodivergant person tends to prefer living alone because my needs never fit with anyone else and my standards r too high so it just makes life easier being by myself. This also includes not having a partner or pets due to this reason as well.

fully agree, it’s so difficult having different needs. i’m autistic and really prefer the quiet - i hate the sound of loud tv or anyone scrolling tiktok on their phone. meanwhile one of my roommates has adhd and really enjoys the dual sensory stimulation of multitasking scrolling and loud tv. it’s rough out here man

Idk why this got downvoted it’s such a common feeling to have and like. Yay I love having an internalized sense of crushing shame for the crime of… having human needs

Same, or if I ever have a partner I just don’t want to live in tight quarters. Like even if I was married I’d still want us to like, live seperately but we can have sleepovers or some shit idk

I'd honestly want the same thing ngl. Or at least have separate bedrooms but that might also be pushing it. I like my own space and I like it being perfect to my liking. It's too difficult to do anything else when u know what works perfect for u

That and people kinda suck and my standards r too specific for anyone to match enough of them for me to ever consider dating anyone. Call me what u want, but at least I know what I want in life. Some people can't say the same for themselves. 🤷

The way I literally wrote a list of all of my needs in a partner and it came down to like 20+ items 💀 holy shit I'm like a hotter version of sheldon cooper personality wise
