So the uprising defense of Shais “free throw merchant” allegations is in strong force. On one hand yes the hate has gone too far but why are people pretending that he’s not doing too much. Why is compromise not an option?

because he’s averaging the 51st most points in nba history while shooting the 203rd most fts per game

Now is SGA more efficient and possibly more impressive due to much lower 3pt shot volume absolutely possible. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t flopping.

harden shot 10+ free throws 7/8 seasons from 2012-20, with over 11 from 2018-20. sga is averaging 9. in that stretch 7 of his 8 seasons he had a FTr (# of free throw attempts/fg attempts) over .5 in 7 of 8 years. this year sga’s is at .465. it’s really not comparable

Yeah going back and looking at it he’s a bit better than the normal mvp candidacy was in terms of the ratio but he’s not too far off and is very close to the previous generations “foul baiters” at the end of the day. They don’t love him like Kobe or the Flash yet. Maybe they will but all the same

In 2018 Harden had 36 ppg and 11 ft/g with 24.5 fg/g. This puts him at a ratio below your golden boy at 45% flat. So that’s peak to peak. And all the competitive stats you used were on an extra 4-5 minutes per game making you wonder

Also for the record this is for comparison against the 2nd worst foul baiter of all time (embiid was crazy for a year or two) so I feel the fact that it’s a conversation opens some doors
