Can we finally stop pretending jaylen brown is some type of genius? I just did a deep dive into all his claimed intellectual credentials/accomplishments and it’s mostly bs and exaggerated. The guy is also a literal anti-vaxxer and flat earther.

He is neither antivax nor a flat earther, just a complete lie. And he got a NASA internship after one year at Berkeley. He’s infinitely smarter than the average person and the only reason he’s not more involved in STEM is because he’s an elite athlete. Such a weird thing to complain about.

He’s not wrong about what he said about the anonymous sources saying he felt like he was the smartest in the room. If you’re in a room with a guy who traded a top 6 player in the league for Paul George, two mid to late firsts, and two seconds, you’re probably going to be the smarter one there

He might be the smartest guy in the room, but as he himself acknowledged “the bar is pretty low” in the nba

Yes he is anti-vax and flat earther. You can go back and look at the record of his refusing to get the vaccine and defense of Kyrie (who he also defended after Kyrie was blatantly antisemitic). As for the NASA internship, you are right that is the most impressive of his credentials, but such internships are not that unusual or indicative of genius. Not saying he’s not smart. But the narrative that he’s some type of “genius” or even unusually smart has gotten ridiculous. It’s pure celebrity hype

Vaccine claim has zero source, silence isn’t a stance. And do you really think a dude which a NASA internship who studies quantum physics in his free time actually believes the earth is flat? Get a grip man. By all standards he would be considered far above average in terms of intelligence, and obviously he gets hype for that, he’s a professional athlete. This is a giant nothing burger of an argument.

Bro I literally remember when only he and Al Horford were the last holdouts on the Celtics for getting the vaccine. They couldn’t travel to Canada to play the Raptors. The guy has a lot of wacky beliefs and also has hawked snake oil products like a necklace that “changes your mental state” with the wellness scammer Gary Brecka. I wouldn’t be going on about this if everyone online didn’t glaze Jaylen all the time

Skepticism of a rushed vaccine is entirely different from being antivax numb nuts. Plenty of people, including plenty of doctors, were cautious about a vaccine that skipped normal timelines. And the reason he is glazed is deserved, he is acting as a bridge between academia and athletics. He’s doing more good for the world through a MIT fellowship, the Bridge Program getting Black and Brown kids into STEM, using his platform for education access instead of just cashing checks and staying quiet.

For reference, I’m a biology student and work at a company called ICON PLC where we ran some of the first domestic COVID vaccine studies. I partook in the process first hand and saw exactly how fast tracked the COVID vaccine was. If it were not mandated by law that I take the vaccine I would not have.

Yep found the antivaxxer. The vaccine was not “rushed” (it was developed quickly because of the extreme circumstances, but not “rushed” in any negative sense) and he did not hold out for a short period of time, but rather years. It’s still unclear if he ever got it. He is an antivaxxer (like you, apparently). Also all that stuff you listed about his community work is good and I give him credit for it.

It was quite literally impossible to “prove it safe” without proper study protocol. In all likelihood it was fine, and that ended up being true, but to say it was “proven” is categorically false.

And all of that is irrelevant to the point that Jaylen Brown deserves all the props he gets as both an academic and athlete. He has done more to bring people into the world of STEM than you could ever even fathom doing.

Yeah buddy I’m not interested in being an ambassador for STEM education. In fact the overprioritization of STEM, at the expense of humanistic education, is what has led to ppl who lack discernment and blindly embrace PR fluff, media hype and other forms of propaganda

Notice you didn’t defend the actual claim anymore, you just moved the goalposts to “STEM overprioritization causes propaganda.” If humanistic education is what teaches discernment, this would’ve been a good time to show some 🤣

Literal textbook shifting of the goal posts. You completely shifted the argument away from Jaylen Brown into the ethics of the prioritization of STEM over humanistic education in academia. Doesn’t get more clear cut than that.

You moved on from the actual argument to playing a stupid “fallacy game” where instead of actually talking about the subject at hand you started critiquing my style of argumentation, accusing me of moving the goalposts when I didn’t even do that. It’s a typical cop out move when you can’t win an argument about the actual topic 😂
