This is a right wing tactic known as “weaponized debate” which is essentially trying to make you seem like the unreasonable party because you are not engaging with their ideas in good faith, typically because their ideas are fucking evil and not founded based on actual evidence, so they are not worth engaging with.

For example, if I’m just being blatantly racist, and instead of engaging with my obviously dogshit opinions as if they hold any merit or legitimacy that would make them worth debating, you just insult me, I try to paint you as “unwilling to engage in debate” even though we both know that I’m not gonna listen to reason regardless, so there is no point in trying to engage in the conversation.

all the “greatest right wing debate lords” (think crowder, shapiro, rubin, etc) are extremely guilty of this or just debate college kids walking to class with no stats backing them up bc who keeps those on hand. very slimy all around
