Ballet and opera are both amazing forms of art but they’re pretty niche nowadays and aren’t rlly at the forefront of cultural progress anymore. That being said ofc there’s massive value in preserving cultural history and art but they’ll never rlly reach the levels of pull they had over the general populous in the way they once did

I don’t need to be an operatic expert to point out poor phrasing/disrespect. I’m not saying he’s the worst person in the world or he even meant to be mean at all. But the wording was poor, and I don’t think it’s out of the question for an opera or ballet performer to take it as disrespectful.
