Heat (1995) is like The Dark Knight if it was slightly better and if 5x fewer people watched it because it didn’t have Batman in it

I don’t think Chris Nolan was at all shy about wearing his influences on his sleeve

I don’t even dislike The Dark Knight, I think it’s great… I just think Heat is even better. Pacino and de Niro in the same movie (and actually sharing scenes, unlike Godfather part II) plus incredible action scenes plus one of the greatest third acts of all time. Entire last hour of the movie my jaw was on the fucking floor. It’s not obscure or anything but it’s crazy to me that it’s not more well known than it is.

I mean you can certainly feel its lasting impact on pulp culture as a whole, GTAV takes huge props from Heat

UPDATE: I just did a couple Google searches, I genuinely had no idea The Dark Knight was that influenced by Heat until you mentioned it (my dumbass just thought they were just two movies that gave me similar vibes) but it completely makes sense, there are so many obvious parallels that I missed at first.

I would say that pretty much anyone around Nolan’s age, i.e., Gen X, are basically gonna be huge movie nerds if they’re directors, so they’re gonna be taking influence from all kind of different shit
