A monopoly would have happened if Netflix bought it and there would be less theater releases. It was already approved by Europe and the federal government. Banda blocking it was going to cause over 2000 jobs lost and over 2b in state revenue if they left. Which they still should leave because the it would lower costs.

To put it in perspective Newsome and Karen Bass had to side against Banta because the possible infrastructure move would be catastrophic to California although a lot of low income housing could be constructed if Hollywood left

To put things in perspective the other buyer was Netflix and if paramount did not acquire it the IPS under Warner brothers would have been parted out individually and there would be less overall theater releases.

To be fair, Netflix has been more experimental with theatrical releases, if those go well they’ll probably be open to doing it more often, so I do think that wouldn’t had caused issues with Warner bros, even if that would’ve lead to job losses like other mergers. Mind you they even consider to buy them until Paramount made the move first so Ellison can complete his right wing agenda and not for the sake of becoming like Disney. The condensation by keeping CBS and CNN separate I refuse to believe
