Yo I’m OP. Everyone here had to read certain segments of it, but not the full thing. I’ve also heard that other districts read either segments, or even worse, the more modern versions that the film was based on that had… choices with the translations that messed with the characters a LOT. I read the full thing on my own time though, so that’s why I was wondering if others had as well

We didn't have any Greek/Roman literature studies required, but my 9th grade English class got way ahead of our schedule somehow so our teacher was able to squeeze it in.

No I had to read it multiple times, then again I took multiple classes dedicated to Greek mythology and history so maybe that’s just me

We did read I think an abridged version in 9th grade. I was also surprised that not everyone had at least read a part of it or knows the basic plot, my bf is the one that really wanted to see it and after he turns to me and was like “was that pretty accurate?” and I was like wait have u not read it??? Apparently he was not made to

Yeah ngl a lot of people glazing the movie probably didn’t have to read it or completely forgot the plot, or at least that’s my assumption. Don’t get me wrong it was still pretty good considering it’s a Christopher Nolan film, but man he could’ve done sooooooooo much better given what he had to work with

I’m annoyed that the stupid casting debate and politics have gotten in the way of people giving honest reviews. That whole situation has led people to give it a 10/10 or 1/10 and I don’t think the movie is either one of those extremes

Actually I was too! I really just can’t put my finger on WHY, but it kinda felt so …underwhelming and meh?? For as glorious of a plot as it could have been made into yk?

Fair. I’m leaning like 6/10. I still think it was good. Underwhelming is probably exactly how I’d describe it. Like the Odyssey is a boring read, but decent plot, but this just didn’t really do it for me…… underwhelming is all I can describe it as

😭 Thank you 🙏 I can finally not feel insane for my opinion on it. Yeah I think I’d give it a 6 or 7 as well (this hinges on if the bad audio mixing was just because the theater I went to had bad speakers). It’s a good movie on its own. As an adaptation of the Odyssey though, I give it maybe a 4/10. As the cinematic masterpiece that Nolan was advertising though, I think he reached maybe a 3/10 at best. Could’ve been so much more considering his capabilities

I’ve been so confused online because everyone says that the scenes and sets all have an “epic scale never seen before in Hollywood”. Hello? Are we forgetting this guy made Interstellar? Compared to what I was expecting going into the movie, everything felt very small. I think that’s part of why I couldn’t get immersed in it as much as I wanted to
