i think both can be true. maybe stranger things was inspired by the book and tv movie. but it series could've been inspired by stranger things in terms of aesthetic and story structure. maybe, idk.

i fear the aesthetic is the exact same as the 2017 movie because it’s a prequel of that. i think the government plot line could have been inspired by stranger things but not much else because they already have the source material

If anything I think the success of stranger things made the It franchise more relevant to audiences since it has a lot of the same surface lvl stuff (esp the 80s nostalgia). I do view ST as an imitation of older pop culture though... first and foremost anyway

even then doesn’t mean derry was inspired yk they’re not set during the same time period in the show but i think it’s pretty obvious stranger things is inspired off of the novel it, even if the movie didn’t come out until after stranger things

i don’t think the hype of this show is because it reminds people of stranger things it’s because of how solid the last 2 it movies were and people want to learn more about pennywise and dick halloran

Oh I would only give ST credit for 1. making nostalgia bait cool again + 2. giving us Finn Wolfhard. Maybe it's farfetched to say the movies benefitted in part from ST popularity? I do think they stand on their own and the show is evidence of that, don't get me wrong
