I think it lowk just breaks immersion like “oh yeah this is my phone”

I don't like subtitles bc it's like spoiling two seconds ahead at all times but some movies these days have such bad sound mixing that there's practically no choice

Yeah so true I also feel like when the movie is shot really well I don’t want to split my attention between what’s being shown and having to read

One movie I saw (can’t remember which) had a loud club scene and they used hardcoded subtitles to improve the overall sound design. I thought it was more immersive than making a loud environment sound quieter than it should for the sake of dialogue in that case
