the recency bias is probably doing numbers on me like it did with nwh, but i think the plot genuinely included characters like hulk, like punisher, like jean (kind of a stand in for a lot of mutants) to communicate larger themes by drawing parallels but also say something about accepting changes. i havent seen anyone say it but the ddc scene with jean and the director just felt like a magneto scene from the prequel xmen movies. which is awesome

ive seen some people upset about how it ended, saying jean was just being convinced by peters memory because it was peter and it was a plot convenience. they say all like oh she saw punishers horrid backstory and bruce banners and it did nothing but she sees peters sad story and changes her mind, but it completely misunderstands what actually happened

the whole scene of her seeing peters memory was not "oh my life was hard too, get over yourself" like the punishers or the hulks mightve been. it was just peter/may being open and connecting to her. i mean it really reminded me of these few panels in a comic between spiderman and hope summers, almost to a T. hes not saying "fuck i lost ben my life is hard get over it" hes just being a person to her
