I hate movies where a character is an Annoying Guy (until they’re further developed or whatever) because yeah they get better but I still have to watch them be annoying for half the movie and it SUCKS

what movies are you watching where no one is annoying or inconvenient ever 😭

Sometimes I wonder why some people even bother watching movies, let alone join forums dedicated to them

Does it also go for movies like Uncut Gems where it’s a character study on an annoying guy, or are those different for you?

I haven’t seen Uncut Gems but imo I have to watch guys be annoying irl often enough that I don’t want to watch movies about it also

Yes I like stories that have a story to them

people connect with stories they see themselves in so the annoying dude movies make sense

also I absolutely love movies that tell a story!! just not ones where a guy is being a shithead the entire time

Part of what makes stories so enjoyable is watching someone you know you aren’t grow as a person through conflict, or even better, finding ways to empathize with characters who help you think about yourself as a person. If you feel this annoyed by watching movies with character development or unlikable protagonists to the point you call them “annoying dude movies” then maybe most movies aren’t for you?

Or, maybe you see something in these characters that you see in yourself and you’re not mature enough to consider that you yourself are also a flawed human who is the annoying dude in someone else’s story, or your own life, who goes through development like every healthy person does

holy pretentious. every (main) character needs flaws and development. there are deeply flawed characters I adore whether they’re redeemed of those flaws or not. I love movies as well- saying “maybe most movies aren’t for you” because I don’t like movies with main characters I find grating and irritating is wild! most movies do not fall into this category for me. saying I don’t like movies with main characters I hate is not a hot take and you don’t need to psychoanalyze me about it 🙏

I wasn’t aware it was pretentious to point out that movies are fun to watch because you can relate to them?

I was “psychoanalyzing” you because you’re overly aggro about your stance and I feel this is perfect grounds to call you immature and akin to someone who would be considered annoying

what’s pretentious is explaining that characters provide people with a way to reflect on themselves as though that isn’t common sense

You need to learn what pretentious actually means lol I explained this common sense to you because you’re acting like you aren’t aware of it, or that you at least needed to be reminded of it

using a whole paragraph to explain a common sense concept like I don’t already know it seems pretty pretentious to me. obviously I understand this

My previous point still stands. Don’t act ignorant if you don’t want things explained to you.

guy who thinks he’s qualified to explain movies to you because he knows that characters have traits that real people also have

You’re saying the same thing over and over again and you’re still confused that I’m treating you like you don’t know what you’re talking about lol

just making up sentences I didn’t say. ofc I watch movies where characters are annoying as a character trait, they just don’t always piss me off as a viewer. I don’t love when it’s the whole arc of the main character so you have to spend an hour plus watching them be a jerk
