Anime just might be the most overrated style of storytelling. It’s just filler episodes and god awful voice acting with stupid animation. None of them are “peak” and the best are good at most. Yes I’ve seen all of Attack on Titan. Good but also stupid.

You're right for a lot of them but some series are actually great, no filler, quality animation, etc etc. Just like movies though, the most popular ones are often slop

a medium that’s been in production for over 60 years, includes every genre, and covers the whole spectrum from disposable profit-driven trash to unique arthouse passion projects can’t really be boiled down to just a “style of storytelling” if you just aren’t into animated stuff then that’s chill ofc, but it’s inaccurate to paint the entire history of animated works from Japan with the same brush

only a few are great and short. the most popular ones tend to have a lot of filler. probably the worst thing about anime is how tropey it is. but then again some started the tropes.

Witch Hat Atelier is so good im not sure if it would be something you like but the animation is generally really good and all the characters are written super well

yeah, I feel like with anime you gotta know what you’re looking for and do some digging beyond what’s recent or popular cause for instance, shows that could just be described as shoujo, shounen, isekai, ecchi, sports, action, war narratives or high school romances don’t really interest me. so that rules out a huge percentage of highly-rated shows

but I know that in general I love surrealism, cyberpunk, melodrama and psychological horror, so the reason I’m still “an anime fan” is cause I’ve found tons of favorites by looking for works with these themes / sorting through related tags on database sites
