i don’t like absolutely love garfield or driver generally, but scorsese gets some really great performances out of them. i feel like passing on a movie because you don’t like the actors (especially if it’s an auteur movie) kinda dismisses the collaborative nature of filmmaking. the director is just as complicit, if not more, in an actors performance, good or bad.

you make a good point. i do like scorsese fine but not enough to watch just for his directing.

i mean, silence isn’t great JUST because of the direction. i’d recommend reading a little bit about it or watching the trailer before deciding to watch it. the book it’s based on is great too, and there’s a masahiro shinoda movie based on it if you haven’t seen it.
