PSA: Telling people that there is a "major twist" is a SPOILER. Telling people that a movie made you really depressed is a SPOILER.

Is saying “this movie is funny” a spoiler too? I get what you’re saying with “major twist” but I don’t think saying a movie is sad is a spoiler

depends on the type of movie with the latter, but i agree for the most part

No because "really sad" almost always means someone will die, and/or if you're watching the movie and everything is fine so far, the ending will be bad/sad due to deductive reasoning

For example, if you told me Romeo and Juliet was really sad, what conclusion do you think Id come to?

That’s just wrong? A movie can be really sad without death (breakups, failures, etc.). And Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, the GENRE ITSELF insinuates bad things will happen, just like how the comedy genre implies funny things will happen or a drama implies that there will be drama. What you’re saying comes to a point where you can’t say anything about any story.

Ok that's an example though, knowing it's a tragedy spoils the plot. Most movies are not labeled as tragedies. And also, again, knowing something sad will happen that hasnt happened yet ruins the movie. Genre is entirely irrelevant.
