Her preformance in that always irks me. Not because of her acting. Because directors like to direct women in action films to always make the same stone cold expression to show how badass they are and it always comes off as forced, awkward, and bland. Same with never allowing them to actually be hurt or beat up or even dirty. Because hollywood just wants to sell hot woman, the actual film comes secondary. She did the best with what she was given

I beg to differ, that’s what makes it good. It’s a little heavy handed with the depression but that’s the point, kids are being forced to fight to death lmao. Yeah she’s emotionally closed off but that doesn’t make her bland. Jennifer acts more on the micro level with her body language and facial expressions which fits the character. Not every performance needs to have crazy range to portray the character properly

I totally get what you’re saying, but I see this same trend across many films, I have a hard time thinking of an action movie with a starring or costarring female that doesn’t do these problems. So I think it is more likely it just accidently serviced the plot of hunger games, rather than intention

I get being tired of the trope, I just think it works really well in her case. The reason it works is she’s not stoic because she’s a badass (even though she is) she’s stoic because her whole psychology is based around trying to protect her younger sister from the reality of living under 75+ years of oppression in the poorest district there is. She can’t afford to show emotions. Her job has always been to make sure her family doesn’t starve every day
