You’re not wrong but they still need to be narratively interesting. A villain that is irredeemable can still be human. In fact all good villains should make you question if they are redeemable or not.

Idk about that. I see where you’re coming from but Phoenix from Demolition Man was a phenomenal villain without being redeemable or Lady Tremaine from Cinderella

Tbh not every villain needs to be some sympathetic outcast from society. Pure evil villains/villains that are just irredeemable people can work too. Joker is a good example of this.

Yo please read what I said. Pure evil is fine but they shouldn’t be evil for no reason. A good example I’m thinking of is homelander. He feels deep insecurity and fears not living up to what people wanted to be. These are things that everyone can relate to. However, he contradicts himself entirely because he’s literally the most powerful Supe ever created, so he actually does have the power to be what he wants to be, but instead chooses to use it to bully others. Among many other reasons,

this is why he’s irredeemable, not because he was just a bad person right out of the womb. And this enhances his character because he has a reason for being this way, which affects how he acts and how he goes about his villainy.

I disagree. To me, morally ambiguous doesn’t mean you can’t make a judgement about someone’s character, it simply means their actions aren’t only explained by “they’re a hero because the author said so” or “they’re a villain because the author said so.” It doesn’t destroy the idea of good and evil, it only enhances our understanding of it. It teaches us what good and evil actually means, what might drive a person to do terrible things, and how we can stay clear of that path in our own life
