Watching the show after reading the books first is rough as hell, I can barely make it through season 2 before getting too irrationally angry at all the unnecessary changes. I think if I were to watch 7 or 8 I’d have a stroke.

I admit that I'm a poser since I haven't read the books, but the quality drop after about season 4 was monumental

Yeah, I’ve heard season 5 just kinda went ‘to hell with the books’ (season 2 already had a few dramatic departures that left me baffled) so I can imagine that the showrunners trying to write their own Game of Thrones story turned out ass. (Especially since season 5 onwards was adapting A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons, the worst and second worst book respectively)
