this list implies that there are people out there who are content with watching a film depicting the unimaginable horrors of the holocaust but draw the line at a nipple

Speaking of the Holocaust and nipples, the only sex scene contained in the entirety of Band of Brothers is about 20 minutes before they liberate a concentration camp. I don’t know why HBO made this decision, but do with this information what you will.

can’t say i see the issue there. even if i thought the sex was only in there for lewd/perverted purposes, twenty minutes should be more than enough time to shake any feelings toward the scene off. either way, that scene has it’s purpose. world war ii was an indescribably stressful thing to be involved in and it was very common for soldiers to meet with women and have sex to unwind. sex can also alter the dynamic between two people; you can learn so much about your partner and yourself in that

intimate state. you’ll find yourself confessing certain sexual fantasies or admitting certain feelings towards your partner, etc. i’m tired of people seeing sex in film/television and jumping to the conclusion that it’s just there for pornographic reasons. i think those reactions say more about how people view sex and/or how they think of art merely as content that shouldn’t challenge them and only be presented to make them comfortable.

While normally I agree, and there definitely is a room for sex in media as a form of artistic expression, you have to remember that this is HBO we’re talking about. Even if it’s not ‘pornographic’ (it basically is), it’s designed to be eye-catching and stimulating, rather than actually have any relevance to the plot; there’s a reason it happens and literally is never discussed again. This isn’t sex in the first Terminator movie, it’s every bouncey-titty sex scene from GoT…

honestly, i respect the vulgarity in that. i can understand how you find it distasteful though. different strokes for different folks i suppose.

Except those A. Normally at least serve a narrative purpose and B. Are part of an adaptation, from what I remember about the Ambrose book, Janovec is never described as having sex with any local girls. It’s an addition.

It’s just jarring because there’s no reason for it to exist, certainly not so soon before the ACTUAL literal HOLOCAUST is displayed on screen. Sex is handled much better in The Pacific.

not saying your point isn’t valid by any means, but my grandfather was a holocaust survivor (he was living with me and my mom these last few years until he died in november) and the horrors of the holocaust are always on my mind. it plays a colossal role in my family, and i really do not care how the sex in band of brothers is presented. not only do i not find it distasteful, but i think it’s a cool creative choice too. i’m sorry it seems to be such a big issue with the show for you; i hate when

there’s a show or movie that i really love and there’s a scene that just flat out disgusts me. that one scene in moonrise kingdom immediately comes to mind.

Yeah my great-grandmother was an Armenian genocide survivor. Thanks to the wonderful world of politics though, the only media that was ever really made about that was a crappy romance movie from a decade ago that everyone forgot.

i’m really sorry to hear that. at least i can be satisfied with how well documented my history is and how much other artists clearly care, even if it means so much other distasteful shit in the same atmosphere. i wish you well, my friend.
