i know OP is being really smug and ignorant here, but i hate the way #1 is handling this. there are so many better ways to turn people onto arthouse films than bullying them for having normie taste. this is really disappointing to see.

I also think it’s totally fine to have normie taste in film, but I understand #1’s point. Also calling out someone for normie taste derogatorily while criticizing someone for being mean to them seems a lil hypocritical.

for sure! i really don’t care what types of movies you like/don’t like as long as you’re giving everything a fair chance. like, if my co worker who’s favorite movie is epic movie watched taste of cherry and thought it sucked, i’d just think it’s cool that he gave it a shot.

i don’t disagree with #1 that people need to be more curious (more ppl should especially be tapped into kiarostami), but this is such a rude way to express that. but yeah, nothing wrong with having basic favorites. i’ll always have a soft spot for edgar wright for being one of my introductions to film as a teenager, and even then the guy simply made a lot of good movies!

the internet’s drawn this weird image of arthouse film buffs that we only love like bela tarr and tarkovsky and hate anything mainstream, but that’s really not the case most of the time.
