I think it's about how they both so desperately want something different that they'll take anything that presents itself, and the last few seconds of the movie are them realizing "ah fuck"

It’s kind of the point bc it feels like part of the movie’s purpose is trying to show how rash the younger generation is but there are like a hundred possible ways they could’ve done it without ruining Elaine’s character

I don’t want to give the impression that I hate this movie btw, entire runtime before he goes to Berkeley would easily make my top 20
