I hate being a Pirates fan. Sometimes I swear there are people with negative ball knowledge. Some of us can’t comprehend the value of a rest day.💀 Why couldn’t my team’s fans have high ball iq

Fr, how are casuals gonna tell me why taking a rest day is bad for the team or say Skenes should go back out to finish a game when he was at like a 98 pitch count? Like, stick to football, buddy. 162 games is too much for them to comprehend.

Yeah like if you can’t trust your bullpen to go out their for ONE more inning, there are bigger issues that your coach should have addressed in the offseason. And I think skenes said it best himself, he wants to be pitching deep into October. A CG means literally nothing in the long run, a perfect game means more, sure, but a “perfect game” with 90+ pitches through 7? You’re not finishing it out perfect either way, it’s not worth the injury.

Now there are some guys coming up (LSU guy last year CG 138 pitches I think, bama player no hit UF this year on over 100, AK for the gators going 100+ every time he comes out, but unless that’s just the type of guy you are, and the type of game you throw, it’s just not worth the risks to your health 🤷🏼‍♀️

For sure, and the fact that fans can’t see that is so bad. Like having our star pitcher tear his UCL in May is like the worst-case scenario for the team. He threw lights out for 98, and he got sat because injuries are way more impactful in baseball than any other sport in my opinion. Your star pitcher goes down, and it can tank your groove, but nah, let’s send him back out because he’s throwing a 1-hitter.

Yeah exactly, I agree a lot of other sports cant see the bigger picture ESPECIALLY with pitchers, they dont get how long the season is for batters and how a rest day can really help, or sitting out rather than playing through it when injured, and they dont get how long a single game is for one pitcher to go, especially not with how strike out infatuated everybody is now. If you’re throwing sub 10 pitch innings bc you’re getting good contact that’s different, but that just doesn’t happen anymore

TRUEEE LOL new fans still think it’s the 80’s or something. A CG is impressive, but with relief pitchers clearing 100 on a 4seamer, there’s just no strategy benefit to keep a guy out there unless, like you said, he’s getting contact or even throwing a perfect game or a no-hitter. But unless he’s at or below 85 pitches, there’s 0 chance I’m sending my ace back out in a 3-run game.
