I’ve been struggling with OCD for some time now. I’ve tried several different medications and therapy before/after I was properly diagnosed and only seen a little improvement with Zoloft. anyone have a similar experience thoughts/recommendations?

I also have OCD and it took me so many meds to find a combo that worked for me. At first, the meds that helped me were barely noticeable, but eventually I noticed that they were actually helping quite a bit. Lamictal and Abilify here (needed both of them to function). I tracked how I was doing with a mood journal and that’s mainly how I noticed the difference (other than less crying)

I’ve been working with a psychiatrist but she’s hasn’t mentioned mood stabilizers/ anti psychotics yet. I mainly struggle with pure OCD and rumination’s / intrusive thoughts so I’m curious if this would be an effective addition

I also suffer from pure OCD! I think the main reason I was put on Lamictal was because I was going from extremely happy to extremely depressed daily, so my mood was the opposite of stable. As for Abilify, I have hallucinations/delusions that are always on-theme (with my OCD) when I’m doing worse mentally, so that med has helped with those occasions. But I’ve heard that both types of meds are commonly prescribed for OCD, despite primarily being given out for treating other conditions.

You could try talking to your psychiatrist about the subject and seeing what she recommends! I’d also mention your small improvement with Zoloft if you haven’t already. It might be that you need to go up in dosage, add meds, or do both. In my case, I think I started with the Lamictal and added Abilify.
