Receiving my BPD diagnosis (after seriously thinking I had Schizophrenia) made me realize no one knows what BPD actually is 💀 they teach and talk about it so wrong. It's always boiled down to 'Fear of abandonment and impulsivity' which isn't even correct

I don’t know much about bpd but I feel a similar way about ocd (I was diagnosed 5 years ago). Literally NO ONE knows what it actually means unless they also have it

Like I thought I couldn't possibly have it bc I'm an avoidant and actually have a fear of not being abandoned almost lmao I also had no idea that BPD can include heavy psychosis I've taken so many fucking psych courses and they all spread so much bad misinformation about BPD 😭 actually, a lot of courses AND mental healthcare providers seem to spread a lot of misinformation about a LOT of conditions

Oh tell me about it. I remember the shock of finding out it can cause hallucinations and that constantly hearing footsteps/my name being called or seeing shadows out of the corner of my eye were not something most people experience

How’d you get a diagnosis? I think I might have bpd and have done a lot of research into it I just don’t know how to bring it up to my psychiatrist

I remember being genuinely horrified about how professors spoke about schizophrenia and ASPD, like 'holy shit these people haven't brushed up on their education since the 1950s bc wtf'

My sister was diagnosed with schizoaffective bipolar II, and I was diagnosed with Bipolar I/ADHD (I thought I was misdiagnosed, thought it was schizophrenia. I was in fact misdiagnosed, but yah) Turns out she has BPD, and I have BPD/ADHD 😭

Hi twin 🥲❤️ Girl I be delusional as fuck and completely lose touch with reality a lot, they think I might still have Bipolar I, it's the overlapping BPD/ADHD that causes all the rapid turbulence within the longer Bipolar episodes. But they also said it can just be bpd/ADHD 😭 like bruh wtf do any of y'all know what you're talking about Have you found any meds that work for you?? I do not trust psychiatrists and their recs after all the bs I've been through with them over the past decade

Honestly self work and having a partner who actually cares to understand and help me was all I needed. They had me on Zoloft for a bit but it would actually just sedate me. So technically my symptoms were being helped, but it was bc I was asleep or about to be asleep. Also having my suspicions validated about my dad causing all this trauma. He would gaslight me into thinking his abuse was normal and simply having an adult professional agree with me was so helpful

But I’ve found my symptoms have mostly subsided since I established strong boundaries with him and have almost entirely cut him off from me. That in addition to constantly being in such a safe and productive space for years now

There are a lot of misinterpreting and a lot of misdiagnosing going on out there. I Have to be careful and am very thorough when I diagnose. We also have to use the information given to us by the patient, so I will frequently give multiple assessments and tests before I diagnose a personality disorder, neurodevelopmental disorder or even Bipolar/mood disorders. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience. I hope your experiences with psychoeducation can improve.

Ask to have a personality assessment done. Not an MBtI or anagram but a real clinical test like the MMPI, MCMI or PAI.

Personally I got my diagnosis after going into psychosis and self admitting to a psych ward, but I feel like you can just tell your psych what your symptoms are and talk about your childhood

I respectfully disagree. Most people I’ve mentioned it to can’t even get past knowing that BPD stands for borderline personality disorder and not bipolar disorder

Bipolar is BD. At least I’ve known this since high school. Just like how ED isn’t eating disorder.

Well. After uh just being myself and being honest about my symptoms 😭 I got diagnosed back when I was 17 just by presenting myself to the psychiatrist in the ED residential I was in 😭 I thought he just diagnosed me w BPD out of spite, but now I see he was correct oops
