therapists use different theories and techniques. it likely just was a mismatch. you need one who aligns with what you are looking for. can’t ask for an orange out of an apple

just sits there while I cry and validates what I’m feeling in a way that became borderline condescending and like coddling by the third session, only once and a while explaining something about the brain, and trying to teach me techniques and strategies for surface level problems (all of which I’ve already learned five times over) but, but never ever going deeper. It just feels like a waste of money.

I thought therapists would help you gain insight to your thoughts, patterns, and behaviors, be invested and investigative about your background and experiences, follow the thread and try to gain a thorough understanding of where you’re coming from so they know where to go.

It feels like I’m bleeding out and she’s trying to put a bandaid on my knee when it’s my arm that’s cut off, and she refuses to acknowledge the arm because I’m not pointing at it.

Thanks I needed to hear that. It’s just frustrating because it took me years to work up the courage to see a therapist and now I’ve just got this bad taste in my mouth about it all

Definitely, I only wish I’d been able to identify that mismatch earlier - I was too focused on not giving up on therapy too soon
