I’m thinking about finally going to talk with a professional and try to get a diagnosis and treatment plan- does anyone have any advice or recommendations? I’m nervous and don’t know if I’m doing the right thing lol

If you have a primary care physician you trust, start there and ask for a referral. There are a lot of whackos online and you’ll want to start with a trustworthy source. Also, stay far away from Betterhelp. There are more life coaches posing as therapists than actual therapists, and they won’t be upfront about it

That makes sense thank you. Is it bad to skip a primary care physician and go straight to a psychiatrist? My pcp is out of state and it doesn’t seem like talking to them first would make much difference anyway if they are just going to send me to someone else

You can’t pose as a therapist without having a license to practice therapy so i’m not sure I agree with you.

Go straight to a psychiatrist just like you would any other specialist.

No if you have a psychiatrist that’s good too!

It’s less that the individual is posing as a therapist, and more that BetterHelp advertises that all of its practitioners are licensed therapists, and that isn’t true. From personal experience, I had to go through 10 different “licensed therapists” that were actually life coaches and priests before leaving the platform all together
