I need to know if anyone else does this. When you make someone angry or upset is your first instinct to hurt yourself? For me I don’t feel better until I feel physical pain and have yelled at myself. Then after, all I feel is shame.

I did this when my BPD was undiagnosed and untreated. It was a way to make a tangible injury to make sense of the intense emotional pain I couldn’t rationalize. It was also a form of punishment. Easier said than done, but you don’t need to punish yourself
