I’m slowly getting into x-men in time for the MCU to make a mess of it, but if I wanted to get into the animated series, do I have to/should I watch the original before X-Men 97?

Yeah I know it’s possible to watch on its own, my friend was telling me it was their introduction to X-men as a whole, I’m mostly just curious if it holds up well enough or if it still betters the experience of binging in any way lol
