We didn’t see their relationship necessarily form on the show, we only got a chance to see them start to like and realize they have feelings for each other, they started dating afterwards and kept most of it private- probably just too busy and leading different lives cause u could clearly see the love was there in the glimpses we got- they only “don’t make sense” at first glance if ur not watching them
