Only Congress has the authority to regulate interstate commerce. Prosecuting people for traveling out of state for a specific service is not only illegal, it’s unconstitutional. Not that that matters when this all predicates on the immorality of prosecuting people for getting medical care.

I’m confused, Georgia’s abortion ban is 6 weeks with nothing about anyone leaving the state and there’s no reason to believe it’ll get stricter anytime soon. Is this meant to be about Texas??? Because they have made attempts to restrict out of state travel for anyone who might seek an abortion. If I’m missing something about ga please tell me, I live there.

I’m wondering as well. The point made is really good, but I don’t see how it applies to Georgia specifically

Yes, and if there is some information I don’t know that makes it apply to Georgia I would really like to know. Like there’s some really unethical things happening because of our abortion ban but it has more to do with brain dead people in the state and less with people leaving the state.

This tweet is from a while ago, before Texas became more relevant that Georgia in terms of abortion restrictions

Thank you for explaining! That makes a bit more sense if it’s an older tweet since the current Georgia abortion ban doesn’t mention anything about getting an abortion in another state. It’s more focused on lowering the window of time you’re allowed to get one (6 weeks), which is absolutely disgusting. Texas is the state currently trying to criminalize getting abortions out of state

Texas thankfully hasn’t been successful at achieving that though

Forgot this earlier, but the Constitution also specifies that people accused of a crime must be given a trial where their crime was allegedly committed, and have the right to a jury of their peers. If someone commits a crime in one state and they are charged in another state, it’s fundamentally impossible to abide by that under the 6th Amendment.
