I'm not lgbt but my roommate is pretty homophobic (says she cant help it bc shes muslim) like if we watch something w queer characters she freaks, etc. I've recently found out she's going around telling ppl Im gay. What could possibly make her do that?

religion isn’t an excuse for homophobia considering how many queer muslims there are. she probably thinks you’re gay if you’re okay with watching entertainment involving queer characters which is very dumb

religious people are stupid. if you live your life according to the rules of an arabian pedophile warlord 1400 years ago then you need help. islam is a cult. christianity is a cult. judaism is a cult. religion is a cult. there's no reasoning with these people

Ugh, she reminds me of that one family member at family gatherings who’s like “I just support that kind of lifestyle.” Religion can be a big factor, but there’s definitely other issues she has. Ur better than me, cause I’d confront that bitch or just shut her out and make it known I’m not engaging with her, but that’s just me (and easier said than done).

She is probably attracted to women and projecting it onto the tv show, society and you.

I mean she probably just assumed that since you don’t hate gay people and watch stuff with queer characters that you’re gay (I do not agree with your Roomate’s stance and I also think that’s extremely rude of her to do that)

shes brutally honest so I feel like she would straight up ask me, if she thought I was? I only found out bc one of her guy friends was asking if Im fully gay or bi

I wouldn't say religion in itself is negative but I'm genuinely so tired of her trying to get me to convert to islam. Now this on top of it, its just pissing me all the way off.

She’s trying to convert you? And you’ve been unreceptive? And she keeps trying despite knowing you don’t want her too? And now she’s trying to embarrass you by telling people you’re gay? Look I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you have a shitty, manipulated roommate.

It's crazy because I went to community living and asked to move to a different dorm because of it and they said its not a valid reason 😓

I do eat bacon all the time but Id never go past that, Id feel guilty for the rest of my life unfortunately. Its a nice, evil thought I can have when I'm mad at her though.

i fear this would backfire onto OP bc the roommate could claim discrimination & get OP in trouble.

can you find out who the person in charge of the dorms works under & speak to that person about it?

I literally went to the tippy top before I even talked to my RA bc I was so distraught (there is so many other things shes done). They did not care and called my RA to check up on us once in a while.

Don’t do this for so many fucking reasons, like #1 this is genuinely not acceptable

Legitimately you might want to tell the top person that you’re being discriminated against, because… you kind of are. She seems to think you’re gay, or at least acts like she thinks you’re gay, and is treating you worse because of that. That’s discrimination

They don't seem to think so but maybe i'll just annoy them to death until they do something about it.

Anyways, I think if Marshall isn’t doing anything about it in your part, at that point you can inform her that she’s welcome to leave and find another roommate herself, cause (as I’ve read through the comments) Marshall isn’t letting you switch roommates. She’s an adult in college, she can either remove herself from a situation where she’s uncomfortable with someone’s differing beliefs, or suck it up and focus on school.

Mention a lawyer or court or lawsuit. They will perk right the fuck up and start acting right. You could win a ton of money if they do not act btw. And you should do it if they don’t.Do it for us.It happens to actual gay ppl everyday and they don’t get the great position you are in.You are in an amazing opportunity rn. Do you have documentation that you reported this? And nothing was done? That is a huge lawsuit. Hold them responsible and make them pay with their wallet. They will never forget

And I guarantee their lawyers will start a new policy that protects gay ppl bc they do not want to get sued again.

So I did a giant email to the community living director and I hope something comes of it. I also talked to my RA and she said it must be because they have a policy to where I have to have visible evidence and can't go by "he said, she said."

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference but my college is private and in Florida.

That makes a huge difference, largely negative. The Florida part is arguably less negative than the private part, funnily enough.

In the email explicitly summarize everything that has happened and all of the lack of action after you reported discrimination and then told you it wasn’t a valid reason to change roomates. They will suddenly act right. Go to the RA and report discrimination and tell them that you need this in writing documented after you report it, if they refuse, add that to your email.

Private?…. That is still a constitutional right to not be discriminated against.
