Honestly if they had gone through with this, i would argue if a group of people don’t have the free will to do as they please in marriage, then marriage itself isn’t something anyone should have.

Not to be that person but many disabled people still aren’t able to get married without losing their benefits so there is currently a group that can’t “do as they please in marriage”

Yeah so basically to qualify for disability benefits you have to make below a certain income and can only have a certain amount of assets— which also means disabled people are often forced to stay in poverty and can’t own big assets like houses. They also take into account your spouse though, so if your partner works or also gets benefits yours could be decreased or taken away completely if you get married

Undocumented immigrants also can’t get married because they either don’t have the proper identification, or out of fear of being arrested and deported. Trans people also may not have the proper documentation to get married. Said documents also cost money to get. Marriage has unfortunately always been a privilege in this country, not a right.
