a sexuality is not a gender. this person doesn’t identify as nonbinary; that’s why i was asking what they identify as since they’re not identifying themselves in a binary (male or female) way. butch and femme are gender identity terms but lesbian is a sexuality. would you go around touting your gender as bisexual and expect people to understand?
I mean sure if i felt like my sexuality were strongly connected enough to my gender identity yeah i would do that. My gender and sexuality are man-who's-attracted-to-men and the two feel inseparable to me so if i considered myself gay I'd probably use it as a gender term too. I wouldn't necessarily expect people to understand but i would expect them to respect it because that's basic human decency. Which is all op is asking for
i’m not telling you that you can’t identify how you identify, but i’m pointing out that you can’t complain when someone makes a claim “looks like a duck, acts like a duck, sound like a duck, it’s a duck” with your gender, you can politely correct and move the hell on. people go based on what they see, its how brains work. my sexuality is irrelevant when I am pointing out how people are going to see and question. To immediately berate me for questioning speaks more on your character than mine.
